Not illustrated. 1922 Excerpt: ...In the employment of apprentices the immediate requisites are determined from one or more interviews, and if convinced that the applicant is satisfactory the matter is referred to the parents or guardians for further explanation regarding all details for immediate and later considerations, especially of those pertaining to items necessary for full recognition as an apprentice. If found qualified at the expiration of the observational period, upon assurance of applicant and parents of complying with the factors as presented in the apprentice agreement, the apprentice is employed in accordance with the respective phase of work selected. The present method of employing apprentices has eliminated many obstacles which heretofore were encountered with apprentice training, besides creating a greater interest on the part of parties to whom the applicant is responsible as to progress, and a better relationship between employer and employee. The nature of the work during the first six months (observational period) is such as to give apprentices an opportunity to observe the various classes of work conducted in the phase of training eventually desired, before entering into an agreement. This method also enables departmental foremen and others directly interested, to determine both for the apprentice's benefit and the Corporation, the necessary requisites for satisfactory results. The nature of duties during the period of observation in more detail are: Pattern Shop Apprentices: Delivery of small patterns to and from pattern shop.
